These upscale groceries were started in 1999 by the former owners of Nature’s Northwest. These stores are a weird hybrid, offering the healthy, fancy foods of Whole Foods and the co-ops, while also offering the more standard grocery store fare of Safeway and Freddys as well. New Seasons is being aggressive about opening new stores, and caught a bit of controversy with opening of Seven Corners, a mere six blocks from Peoples Co-Op. Two things to point out: New Seasons has the best samples on the weekends, offering up tons of fruit, cheese, bread, cooked food, and sometimes beer! And New Seasons is the only place in Portland to find Moxie and Vernors.
