Bins, The (a.k.a Goodwill Outlet)

You have to be in a special mood to go to the bins. Are you ready to get your hands dirty enough that touching your face could lead to certain death? Ready to punch your way out if you’ve got an exceptional find? Then you’re prepared for this amazing thrifting adventure. At the bins you can buy clothes for 1.50 per POUND, and other housewares and books for less than that. It takes a lot of digging (as there are actual 100 foot long bins of unsorted merchandise for you to look through), but at times you could find amazing things for insanely cheap prices. Watch out for the daring old women who race to the newest merchandise and will gladly knock you on the ground and step on your face if it can get them closer to that vintage mohair sweater!

My friends call this place The Dirty Goodwill. Be careful here, you may find an amazing shoe and then go insane for hours looking for it's mate only to find another insane person doing the same thing with the matching shoe. So sad.

After reading the description, I decided I would travel there the next day. (This was in the summertime) It is quite fun! There are many people who spend the day there. There were clothing hoarders, some looking for vintage t shirts, some looking for boy basketball shorts, and some looking for anything else that they could sell on ebay. There were people who just searched through the books looking for something in good condition. It was a great social experience, there were many interesting people to talk to. Watch out when they bring out a new bin though, everyone starts to hover around like hawks and they may push you out of the way and pull your hair to get a nice doll for their child. That pretty much sums up the bins, I am going to be there the next rainy weekend! I loved it.

Just made my first trip to the bins. Found some decent stuff, including blank shirts for screenprinting, and the exact grey fleece hoodie that I've been looking for everywhere and not finding until now. Also found some cool NRA rifle targets that'll make good clip art at the IPRC. The place was really pretty gross--you're basically digging through tons of dirty, dirty laundry. Also, allergics beware: I had my first allergy attack of the season from all the dust and cat/dog hair all over the clothes. My advice: wear a respirator and haz mat suit. And have fun!

Thrift shops can be the haven of people who love to shop but really in a very tight budget especially now that our economy is still recovering from the financial crisis. Sensible and cautious spending of money can be the best thing to do in this time of hardships. And what is great about this group is that they are trying to help those unfortunate people to at least purchase themselves with something. Clipping coupons is a time honored tradition, yet the practice of clipping coupons and other practices of thrift have been subject of ridicule over the last few years. Well, those people into money saving ideas and not having to get payday loans all the time are not concerned about ridicule. They are willing to compare, and look out for sales ads. Buying bulk is always a good idea, as you can stock up for quite some time and save a lot of green over the long run. Keeping a keen eye on what is going for cheap in your area grocery stores can save you a lot of money if you keep to it. You can keep from wondering about installment loans to keep the shelves stocked by clipping coupons.
