“Making long hair short, short hair shorter.” Forget Bishops, Rudy’s, or whatever “hip” new barbershop opens up, Laurelhurst is the real deal. Originally located on E Burnside at SE 28th, the Laurelhurst has been a barbershop continuously since the ‘20s. (They had to move around the corner when the “swanky” owner of their building decided to jack up rent so he could put his own barbershop there instead.) And where else can you get your hair cut by Fred “The Punk Rock Barber” Landeen, one of the hosts of KBOO‘s punk show “Life During Wartime” and a featured star in everyone’s favorite comic, CLUTCH? (He’s the guy shaped like a potato.) While you’re getting your hair cut Fred may be on the phone booking a tour for an out-of-town band (maybe even Canadian!) Just remember one thing: don’t be married to your long, hippie hair when going in there, because that hair ain’t gonna be around for long!
