Chaos Cafe

Occupying an almost-triangular building hedged between Powell, 26th, and the old streetcar route, and sporting a quite lovely Alphonse Mucha-esque mural (covering over the tacky “Nacho Mamas II” painting), Chaos features scads of creative vegetarian dishes. Everything sounds tasty! And with a fine selection of beer, it’s a great place for dinner. It’s also great for breakfast as is it’s in an unlikely location so the long lines associated with other breakfast joints aren’t found. Service can be a little slow, but it all adds to the casual atmosphere.

Everything on their menu is tasty, and the prices ($8 for a breakfast burrito, about $10 for curry) are totally worth it, especially if you consider that MOST of their food is organic, and they strive to buy as local as possible (trust me, I've seen their stock room!). My favorite dish is either the Cascade sandwich or The Lone Ranger. And the Red Velvet juice is fresh, tasty, and pretty healthy.

PS - Don't forget that next door they have the Parlor, hosting events pretty much every night that are usually free and run pretty late. Great place for local artists and musicians, as well as for people who want to rent it out.

I wandered in to this place for a cup of coffee. I was surprised how busy it was, but the people were very friendly. The coffee was good, with Soy Milk available at no extra charge. I grabbed a vegan muffin on my way out, but later discovered it had gone bad! I'm sure mine wasn't a common incident, but do yourself a favor and have a look at your muffin before taking a bite!
