We here at the Zinester’s Guide are looking for well written articles about interesting things to see and do in Portland, Oregon.
Articles should be:
- POSITIVE. We don’t want this space to be a slag forum. Write about things you like, ignore the things you don’t.
- AT LEAST TWO SENTENCES LONG. You don’t have to write “War and Peace”, but a one sentence description won’t cut it.
- INTERESTING. Why should we go to this particular establishment versus the metric ton of other, possibly similar places in Portland? Make us want to go there.
- INFORMATIVE. Try to give us as much pertinent information as possible. Address, phone number, website, hours open, etc. True, you are not required to know all the above, but incomplete entries mean WE have to spend the time looking up all that information before the listing gets posted. And we don’t always have all the time we want to devote to this project, this isn’t our job. Be nice to us.
Conversely, articles SHOULDN’T BE:
- UNINFORMATIVE. Just saying “Awesome Happy Hour food everyday until 7pm” doesn’t tell us anything about what the food is, what the price of food is, what the ambiance of the establishment is like, or give us any other reason to go here. Really, would you go to this place with only that information?
- WRITTEN IN THE FIRST PERSON. Meaning, this is not a space for SELF-PROMOTION. We understand that getting the word out about your space may be tough, especially if you’re new. But kids, this is a REVIEW site. If you’re that desperate, just write the review in third person. Or bribe one of your friends.
- ABOUT EXPENSIVE PLACES. This is a low budget guide. One should leave a dining establishment satisfied without spending more than $10, not including tip.
- ABOUT CORPORATE CHAINS. True, a few have slipped through the cracks (like Fred Meyer) but do we really need a review about a Starbucks? Do we really need to ask this question? Local chains are okay, though.
- If you have any questions, please contact us. If not, please submit your entry!
